Why bother (to even start this blog…)
Well, not that I really owe an explanation to anyone, and not that anyone is reading this either, but I’ve started this blog for a number of reasons.
It’s main purpose, well, is to provide a homepage for what I keep referring to as my “World Tour“. I’m not famous by any means, yet the name has stuck in my mind – because that’s what it’s going to be, a detailed account of my preparations for an extensive trip across Europe, S. Africa, Asia, and Australia. I’m hoping to hit South America as well, but, I’m traveling across the Atlantic first, and Europe is going to be much easier to get adjusted to this whole “living on the road” deal.
It’s a lot of work, just even trying to really get a grasp on the entire concept, on how to go about organizing it. What I need to do now, what can wait, and then the actual traveling itself.
It’s also a matter of trimming off what I currently own (though I don’t have a ton of stuff since I live in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn), but its enough to contribute to funds for gear and the actual costs incurred by such an endeavor. It also means a lot less to store here in the states – if and when I move back, as this entire journey is quite open-ended, I’ll just replace those items when needed.
So much to learn, so much to do. Much of this will bore the average reader, but some may find it interesting enough to keep tabs on what I am doing now, and my eventual trip.
Perhaps in another post, I’ll go into my thoughts and details on the “why” of giving up a rather decent job here in NYC, a nice although overpriced apartment, and choosing instead to live life on the road, at least while I’m young enough to do so.
